We offer face-to-face tuition at our centre.
Our year 5 course is a programme which runs at our local s4e 11+ tuition centre in Stechford. This includes a weekly 2-hour tuition session, weekly homework and ongoing support and advice.
It’s a comprehensive form of 11 plus preparation designed to help children who are going to sit the highly competitive grammar and independent school entrance exams.
Our weekly group sessions provide children with a well-rounded education which supports their learning beyond year 5.
We understand that every child is different so our experienced 11 plus teachers apply tried and tested teaching methods to lend personalised support exactly where it’s needed.
How a Year 5 session works: A Maths topic is taught each week. Some larger Maths topics, such as Fractions, are taught over a number of weeks. Children will be given weekly Maths homework based on the objectives taught in the lesson, along with any other topics that were taught in class. The other 11+ topics, such as Non-Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Reasoning, are taught on a rotating weekly basis. Vocabulary features heavily in the 11+ exam, therefore time each week is spent addressing this subject. At the end of each session, parents are given feedback about their child’s progress on each objective, and their focus during the lesson. During the session, children work through the same objectives at a level according to their own ability. If children successfully work through all objectives accurately, a challenge objective is provided. Each session is teacher-led and paper-based, as opposed to computer-based work. After years of classroom and 11+ teaching experience, we feel the best learning happens with teacher-led modelling and discussion, followed by independent work.
Homework: All Year 5 children are provided with weekly paper-based activities. All children are encouraged to read a daily minimum amount of time and filling in a reading log which accompanies the weekly homework. Children are rewarded for fully-completed homework which includes a completed Reading Log.

Visual Resources:
At S4E we feel it is important that children have access to as many visual aides and resources as possible, especially if they are struggling with certain objectives.
