Year 4 11+

All about the Year 4 11+

We offer face-to-face tuition at our centre.

If your child is starting Year 4 this September and you wish them to prepare for the 11 plus entrance exam earlier, then our year 4 course is a fantastic way to kick-start their 11 plus preparation.

Many parents wonder whether starting 11+ preparation in year 4 is beneficial or not. Although this can vary between individuals, our experience shows that children who do start their 11 plus preparation at the beginning of Year 4 begin to develop the skills needed to succeed in the 11+ exam early.  This prepares the children for the Year 5 11+ course that we offer.

How a Year 4 Session Works:  Each Year 4 session includes a curriculum Maths topic. The English and Non-Verbal Reasoning topics rotate on a weekly basis and include various Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) elements and all types of Non-Verbal Reasoning topics which have featured on recent 11+ exams. Every few weeks there are times tables, calculation, and vocabulary quizzes. At the end of each session, parents are given feedback about their child’s progress on each objective,  and their focus during the lesson. During the session, children work through the same objectives at a level according to their own ability. If children successfully work through all objectives accurately, a challenge objective is given. Each session is teacher-led and paper-based, as opposed to computer-based work. No computer-based class work is given, because as experienced teachers, we feel the best learning happens with teacher-led modelling and discussion, followed by independent work.
